Our Top Ten Favorite Places to Eat in Playa Del Carmen

by | May 21, 2024 | Food, Travel

Playa del Carmen is not just a stunning beach destination; it’s also a food lover’s paradise. That saying, “Do you eat to live, or do you live to eat?” I am definitely the latter. I love food, and we eat out almost every night we are there. Of course, try all the Mexican food, but you can find whatever you want in Playa del Carmen. You can find authentic Lebanese cuisine, fresh sushi, or the best slice of pizza in town. In no particular order, these are the best places we have found to eat in Playa del Carmen. Let’s dive into a culinary journey through some of the best places to eat in this vibrant beach town, blending personal experiences with must-visit recommendations.

1. Tahini – Authentic Lebanese Delight

Nestled on the picturesque Calle 38th, Tahini is a Lebanese gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This street is one of my favorite parts of Playa del Carmen, and we found ourselves walking there three times on our last trip, especially enjoying the stroll at night. The ambiance of Calle 38th adds to the charm, making it worth the walk from where we were staying at the AI Smile Design towers.

As a lover of Mediterranean cuisine and owner of a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, I have a special place in my heart for good Lebanese food. Tahini did not disappoint. We got a little bit of everything on the menu, and not a single dish fell short. The flavors were authentic, and the atmosphere was perfect for a memorable evening.

2. La Famiglia – Great Pizza

If you’re looking for a good slice of pizza, La Famiglia is the place to go. This spot has earned a reputation for serving up some of the best pizza in Playa del Carmen. With a wide variety of toppings and perfectly baked crusts, La Famiglia is a must-visit for pizza lovers. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing a slice to go, you won’t be disappointed. This was a take-out night, and it was perfect.

3. Mirai – Best Sushi in Town

For sushi enthusiasts, Mirai is the place to be. Offering an extensive menu of fresh and innovative sushi rolls, Mirai stands out as the best sushi restaurant in Playa del Carmen. The quality of the fish is top-notch, and the creative combinations are sure to delight your taste buds. Whether you’re a sushi purist or love trying new flavors, Mirai has something for everyone. The atmosphere is great too!

4. Las Hijas de la Tostada – A 5th Avenue Favorite

Located on the bustling 5th Avenue, Las Hijas de la Tostada is a seafood lover’s paradise. This restaurant specializes in tostadas topped with a variety of fresh and flavorful ingredients. Get a seat overlooking Fifth Avenue for some great people-watching. And if they have the tuna chorizo, get it—it is amazing. Be sure to try their signature tostadas for a true taste of Playa del Carmen. This was our first stop on both trips because, while I believe 5th Avenue to be slightly overrated and you should definitely walk off 5th for some of the best restaurants, this isn’t one to skip.

5. Mulix Cachina Boutique – Best Breakfast

Start your day right at Mulix Cachina Boutique, known for serving the best breakfast in Playa del Carmen. From traditional Mexican breakfast dishes to classic favorites like pancakes and omelets, Mulix offers a delicious and diverse menu. For this restaurant owner, it was great to watch the chef in the small open kitchen. All the huevos are amazing. Make sure to get the French toast with honey—so good. We ate here three times over the last two trips. The cozy ambiance and attentive service make it the perfect spot to kick off your morning.

6. Romeo’s – Top-notch Italian Cuisine

Craving Italian food? Romeo’s is the place to go. This charming restaurant serves up authentic Italian dishes that will transport you straight to Italy. From freshly made pasta to mouthwatering risotto, Romeo’s offers a delightful dining experience. The warm, inviting atmosphere and attentive staff add to the overall charm of this Italian gem. Make sure to get a reservation or, in this case, your name written on a pad by the manager or maybe the owner—this place gets packed.

7. Casa Sofia – Another Great Italian Place

Another gem for Italian cuisine is Casa Sofia. If you have found my blog because you are also undergoing dental surgery, this is the place for a nice bowl of potato soup. My husband had one of their pizzas, and their pastas also looked amazing. The cozy atmosphere and delicious food make Casa Sofia a must-visit for Italian food lovers.

8. Lost Tiki – Best Vibe

For a laid-back dining experience with a great vibe, head to Lost Tiki. This eclectic spot offers a unique menu with a mix of international flavors and local ingredients. We tried all the tacos and have had multiple other fusion dishes. The tiki drinks are creative and incredible. Sit at the bar and watch these awesome bartenders mix up some drinks. The relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, and creative cocktails make Lost Tiki a perfect place to unwind and enjoy a delicious meal.

9. Don Luca Juice Bar – Fresh Juices and Fantastic Service

One of my favorite things about Playa del Carmen is the ability to get fresh fruit and juices, and Don Luca Juice Bar is the best place for this. They offer amazing juices, and the service is top-notch. The fresh, vibrant flavors of Playa Del Carmen are something I always long for when I return to America. If you love fresh, healthy drinks, Don Luca Juice Bar should be on your list. Their delicious concoctions will leave you refreshed and craving more.

10. Fusion – Favorite Beach Dining

Imagine dining with your toes in the sand while enjoying the sound of the waves. Fusion offers just that. This beachfront restaurant is perfect for those looking to enjoy a meal with a stunning ocean view. The menu features a variety of dishes, from fresh seafood to grilled meats, all prepared with a Caribbean twist. The nachos hit the spot, and my husband loved his Dirty Monkey cocktail—he has strong opinions about drinks with bananas, and they are all good. Fusion’s laid-back vibe and beautiful setting make it a favorite for beach dining in Playa del Carmen, with live music most nights and performers to entertain. Make sure you bring cash to tip the performers; they truly add to the fantastic experience.

From Lebanese delicacies at Tahini to the best sushi at Mirai, Playa del Carmen’s culinary scene is diverse and delightful. Whether you’re looking for a hearty breakfast, a slice of pizza, or a beachfront dining experience, this vibrant beach town has something to satisfy every palate. So, next time you find yourself in Playa del Carmen, be sure to check out these fantastic dining spots and embark on a culinary adventure you won’t forget.
